Opuntia Miquelii
The Opuntia Miquelii is a shrubby cactus appreciated for its fleshy pads, light green to bluish green in color, often marked with small white, woolly areoles. This South American prickly pear develops a sculptural silhouette over the years and can reach up to 2 meters in height when grown in the ground.
Its oval pads stack on top of each other, forming a dense and branched structure. Like many Opuntia, it bears both long, rigid spines and glochids (small irritating hairs), making it spectacular but requiring care when handling.
In summer, it produces yellow to orange flowers that contrast beautifully with the soft color of its pads. These flowers may be followed by small purple or red fruits, sometimes edible. The Opuntia Miquelii is a robust ornamental cactus, ideal for creating a desert or Mediterranean atmosphere.
In its natural habitat, it grows on rocky slopes and stony terrain, receiving intense light and rare but heavy rainfall. Natural drainage is excellent, which is essential for successful cultivation.
☀️ Direct sun: Full south exposure recommended. At least 6 hours of sunlight per day.
🏠 Container growing: Place near a well-exposed window. Indoors, supplemental LED grow lighting can be beneficial.
