Euphorbia Tirucalli
The Euphorbia Tirucalli, also known as the "pencil tree", is a fascinating and graphic plant that catches the eye with its long cylindrical and leafless stems. Its unique silhouette evokes modern structures or fossilized corals, making it a preferred choice for lovers of contemporary decorative plants. This euphorbia, with a bushy or tree-like habit, can reach several meters in its natural habitat, but remains easy to grow in pots, forming a sculptural plant that is highly drought-resistant.
The color of its stems ranges from bright green to orange-red, especially in full sun or under water stress. This contrast of tones gives the Euphorbia Tirucalli a particular charm, especially in winter. Moreover, this euphorbia is extremely easy to care for, making it ideal for beginner gardeners or low-maintenance environments. It fits equally well in bright interiors or dry gardens, provided it is protected from frost.
🌞 Intense sunlight: It tolerates direct sun without issue, and it is under these conditions that it develops spectacular red or orange shades.
🌤️ Indoors: Place it near a south-facing window. In insufficient light, the stems will remain green and growth will slow down.
💧 Spring / summer: Water every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings.
❄️ Winter: Space watering as much as possible or stop completely, especially if the temperature drops below 15 °C.
⚠️ Warning: Too much water can cause root rot. Overwatering is the main cause of failure.
🌡️ Ideal: Between 20 and 28 °C during the growing period.
❄️ Minimum: It does not tolerate frost. Bring it indoors when temperatures approach 10 °C.
Use a mixture of cactus substrate then add 50% perlite to ensure good drainage. A surface dressing of pumice stone will limit excessive moisture
🌸 Season: Rarely in spring, mainly outdoors in warm areas
🌼 Appearance: Tiny yellow to greenish flowers, inconspicuous, located at the ends of the stems
