Hoya Obovata
The Hoya Obovata is a tropical climbing plant highly valued for its thick, round leaves and enchanting star-shaped flowers. Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, this Hoya species belongs to the Apocynaceae family. Its most distinctive feature is its foliage: large, rounded leaves, sometimes slightly oval, often marbled with silver splashes. Their firm, waxy, almost succulent texture allows the plant to tolerate dry periods well.
Easy to grow yet spectacular, the Hoya Obovata can thrive in hanging baskets or in pots with support. Its long twining stems can exceed one meter in length under favorable conditions. During flowering, spherical umbels of 10 to 30 star-shaped flowers appear. These blooms, white to pink with a deep reddish-purple center, release a soft, sometimes slightly vanilla-like fragrance, especially in the evening.
☀️ Bright exposure without harsh direct sun
🌤️ Ideal near an east- or west-facing window with filtered light
💡 Too little light results in slow growth and rare flowering
Well-balanced lighting ensures dense foliage and promotes blooming.
🌱 Growing season (spring / summer): Water when the top 2 cm of substrate are dry
🍂 Autumn / winter: Space watering every 15–20 days
⚠️ Excess water causes root rot and leaf drop
When in doubt, wait—Hoya Obovata prefers dryness over stagnant moisture.
