Echinopsis Oberon
Among the most elegant and floriferous hybrids of the genus, Echinopsis Oberon immediately captivates with its grand flowering and compact silhouette. This cactus, appreciated by collectors, results from crosses between various species of the Echinopsis genus, aimed at producing spectacular flowers with vibrant colors.
Echinopsis Oberon forms a globular to slightly cylindrical body, usually dark green, marked by rounded ribs and small areoles bearing short, fine spines. However, its flowering truly makes it a star in collections: the large, star-shaped daytime flowers open in summer and last one to two days. The “Oberon” cultivar is known for producing pure white to pale pink, sometimes pearly, very luminous blooms.
Easy to grow, compact, and generous in bloom, it is ideal for beginners as well as enthusiasts of floriferous hybrids.
🌞 Sun exposure: South or southeast exposure. Minimum 5 to 6 hours of direct sun per day.
🌤️ Indoor cultivation: Place it behind a very bright window. Rotate it regularly to prevent deformation.
💡 Without sufficient light, it produces few or no flowers.
💧 Spring/summer: Water generously every 10 to 15 days when the substrate is dry.
🍂 Autumn/winter: No watering if kept cool. Otherwise, a very light monthly watering.
⚠️ Never leave water standing in the saucer. Constant humidity promotes rot.
🌡️ Ideal temperature: Between 20 and 30°C in summer.
❄️ Winter: Tolerates down to 0°C if completely dry. Ideally between 5 and 10°C to encourage flowering the following spring.
🏠 Overwintering: In a bright room, without direct heating.
🪨 Ideal composition: cactus soil (50%) + perlite (30%) + pozzolana (20%)
🌸 Period: Between May and July
🎨 Flowers: Large (up to 15 cm), white to pale pink, very fragrant.
🕑 Duration: About 1 to 2 days per flower, but several waves of blooms are possible.
💡 Flowering strongly depends on overwintering: the cooler and drier the plant is kept in winter, the more generously it will bloom in spring.
