Senecio Herreianus Purple Flush
The Senecio Herreianus Purple Flush is a particularly attractive variety of the famous “string of oval pearls”. This form stands out for its characteristic purple tint which intensifies under bright light or slight water stress, giving its stems and leaves an almost unreal appearance. With its oval, teardrop-shaped foliage and shades ranging from soft green to deep purple, this trailing plant is a true botanical gem.
The growth habit of the Senecio Herreianus Purple Flush is naturally trailing, making it an ideal plant for hanging baskets, elevated planters or graphic compositions. The leaves, often striped with translucent lines, allow light to penetrate the plant, optimizing photosynthesis while giving it a unique charm. Its growth is rapid when well exposed, and it can produce long decorative stems in just a few months.
🌞 Bright to sunny light : Ideally, 5 to 6 hours of indirect sunlight per day. Morning full sun is recommended.
🌤️ Purple coloration : The more light it receives, the more its stems take on an intense purple hue.
⚠️ Lack of light causes etiolation, with long sparse stems and loss of coloration.
🌱 Growing period : Water moderately every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, when the substrate is completely dry.
🍂 Winter dormancy : Drastically reduce watering, or even stop if the plant is kept at low temperature.
💧 Excess or lack of water? : Soft and wilted leaves signal a lack of water. If they become translucent or drooping, excess is likely.
🌡️ Optimal range : between 18°C and 28°C.
❄️ Minimum temperature : It can briefly tolerate 5°C but it is preferable to overwinter it above 10°C.
🪨 Use a special cactus soil or substrate for succulents, to which 30 to 40% of perlite or pozzolana should be added for excellent aeration.
🌸 Period : generally at the end of winter.
🌼 Flowers : Small, tubular, white with a pale yellow center, slightly fragrant.
🕑 Conditions : a mature plant, well exposed, lightly watered in winter will encourage flowering.
