Parodia Magnifica
The Parodia Magnifica, also known as the "ball cactus" or "round cactus", is a botanical marvel highly appreciated by cactus enthusiasts for its graphic appearance and ease of care. This globular cactus charms with its perfect silhouette, bluish-green color, and elegant ribbed ribs adorned with well-spaced areoles bearing white or yellowish spines that harmoniously highlight each curve.
In summer, the Parodia Magnifica offers spectacular flowering: beautiful bright yellow cup-shaped flowers bloom at the top of the plant, contrasting magnificently with its blue-green hue. These daytime flowers add a vivid touch of color to its already highly decorative appearance.
This cactus is perfect for pot cultivation, whether indoors in a bright location, in a greenhouse, or outdoors during the warm season. Its robustness and geometric appearance make it an excellent option for those wishing to start a collection or simply add a design touch to their space.
These natural conditions – sun, well-drained soil, occasional rainfall – have shaped a resilient plant, perfectly suited to pot cultivation provided its basic needs are respected.
🌞 Direct light: Ideally 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day.
🌤️ Adaptation: Indoors, place it near a well-exposed window (south or west). Outdoors, avoid full sun during the hottest hours at first.
⚠️ Warning: Lack of light can cause etiolation, with loss of spherical shape.
🌱 Spring / Summer: Water once every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing the substrate to dry completely between waterings. Always check depth.
🍂 Autumn / Winter: Gradually reduce watering until completely stopping during winter.
⚡ Important: Excess water is the main cause of mortality. A pot with drainage holes and a well-draining substrate are essential.
🌡️ Ideal temperature: between 20°C and 28°C
❄️ Cold resistance: Down to 5°C if the soil is completely dry. Must be protected from frost.
🏠 Wintering: Bring it into a bright, cool room (10–15°C) with very little watering during winter.
🪴 Recommended mix: 50% cactus potting soil 30% pumice stone 20% pozzolana
📅 Season: Spring and summer
🎨 Color: Bright yellow, sometimes slightly orange
🌼 Feature: Flowers grow in a crown at the top of the plant. Their duration is short (2–3 days), but several flowering cycles are possible throughout the year.
💡 Tip: For abundant flowering, respect winter dormancy without watering.
