Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Inermis Cristata
The Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Inermis Cristata is a true living work of art. This rare crested form of the well-known Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii is characterized by crest growth — or “cristation” — forming irregular, sculptural waves. Combined with the total absence of spines (“inermis”), it results in a visually striking cactus with an almost soft appearance that immediately draws attention.
Its color ranges from soft green to gray-green, sometimes with subtle violet hues depending on light conditions. The Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Inermis Cristata is often grafted onto other cacti to encourage growth, but it can also be cultivated on its own roots with patience.
Its irregular form, never identical from one specimen to another, makes it a highly sought-after collector’s plant for lovers of mutant and aesthetic cacti.
It shares the same requirements as the classic forms: warmth, well-draining substrate, and soft light.
🌤️ Bright, non-burning light: near an east- or southeast-facing window.
🌞 Soft sunlight: tolerates morning sun but is sensitive to intense heat.
⛱️ In summer: choose filtered light or partial shade during the hottest hours.
🌱 Growing period (April to September): water every 2–3 weeks, only when the substrate is completely dry.
🍂 Dormant period (October to March): stop watering completely.
⚠️ Important: the substrate must dry thoroughly; excess water is the main threat.
🌞 Ideal temperature: 22°C to 30°C.
❄️ Minimum threshold: 5°C. Below 10°C, bring it indoors.
🏠 Wintering: in a bright, cool, and dry place.
🪨 Ideal composition: 50% cactus soil, 30% pumice, 20% pozzolana.
💡 Tip: add a layer of gravel on the surface to keep the collar dry.
🌼 Season: usually in spring.
🎨 Color: white to pale pink, sometimes lightly veined.
🕑 Duration: 2 to 4 days per flower, often in succession.
📌 Note: flowers appear on more stable areas, not directly on distorted crests.
