Gymnocalycium Marsoneri
The Gymnocalycium Marsoneri is a small globular cactus native to South America, particularly Argentina. This compact jewel, often slightly flattened, stands out for its coloration ranging from dark green to brownish tones and its well-defined ribs adorned with evenly spaced areoles. This cactus remains small in size (rarely exceeding 6 cm in height), but it more than makes up for it with its remarkable flowering.
Its flowers are surprisingly large compared to its size: they can reach up to 5 cm in diameter and display a color palette ranging from pale yellow to light pink or creamy white, with a darker throat. This subtle contrast between its physical robustness and the delicacy of its blooms is what makes the Gymnocalycium Marsoneri so highly valued by collectors.
In its natural environment, it is often partially buried in the ground, which helps protect it from excessive heat and dehydration.
🌞 Bright indirect light: ideally placed facing south or east behind a window.
🌤️ Avoid scorching sun: especially during summer afternoons, to prevent sunburn on the epidermis.
💡 Tip: insufficient light will limit flowering.
🌱 Spring / Summer: water once every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing the substrate to dry completely.
🍂 Autumn / Winter: stop watering entirely as soon as temperatures drop below 12°C.
⚠️ Important: excess water quickly causes root rot.
🌞 Ideal growing temperature: between 20°C and 30°C.
❄️ Cold tolerance: down to 0°C if kept dry, but never expose to frost.
🏠 Wintering: place in a cool, bright location around 10°C, with no watering.
🪨 Recommended mix: 40% cactus potting soil, 30% pumice, 30% drainage granule.
🌼 Blooming period: from late April to June.
🎨 Colors: pale yellow to pastel pink, sometimes bicolored.
💡 Good to know: flowers open during the day and close at night. A well-rested plant in winter will flower more easily.
