Haworthia Obtusa
Haworthia Obtusa is a fascinating small succulent appreciated for its compact rosettes and translucent leaves that seem to capture light. Its charm comes from its fleshy, rounded, slightly pointed leaves whose translucent tips act like “windows,” allowing light to penetrate inside the tissue. This phenomenon, typical of some haworthias, gives the impression that the plant softly glows in sunlight.
Rather discreet in size, Haworthia Obtusa generally does not exceed 10 cm in height, but its beauty lies in the delicacy of its details. Its rosettes form small clumps resembling botanical jewels. Foliage ranges from soft green to dark green, sometimes with almost crystalline translucent reflections.
Easy to grow, it adapts perfectly to pot culture indoors or in small succulent gardens. Unlike many succulents that require full sun, Haworthia Obtusa prefers gentle light, making it ideal for apartments or offices.
🌤️ Soft light: Prefers indirect or filtered light, ideal behind an east- or north-facing window.
🌞 Gentle sun: Can tolerate a few hours of morning sun but fears harsh afternoon rays.
⚠️ Tip: Too much sun burns translucent leaves, while insufficient light causes elongation and loss of compactness.
🌱 Spring / summer: Water every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing substrate to dry completely.
🍂 Autumn / winter: Water much less, about once a month.
⚡ Tip: A mix containing perlite or pozzolana is ideal to avoid excess moisture.
🌞 Ideal temperature: Between 18 °C and 26 °C.
❄️ Tolerance threshold: Can briefly drop to 5 °C but does not tolerate frost.
🏠 Indoor culture: Perfect for apartments, requiring no major temperature fluctuations.
🪨 Ideal mix: Special cactus substrate mixed with sand and perlite.
💡 Tip: Occasional liquid cactus fertilizer promotes balanced growth.
🌸 Period: Spring or early summer.
🎨 Color: Small white to greenish flowers on thin flower stalks.
🕑 Duration: One to two weeks.
💡 Feature: Though subtle, flowering adds delicate charm to its crystalline rosettes.
