Strombocactus disciformis
The Strombocactus Disciformis is a Mexican cactus of singular beauty and rare appeal that irresistibly attracts collectors. This miniature species, with its globular to flattened form, is immediately recognizable by its spiraled ribs forming a geometric pattern that is both precise and fascinating.
Rarely exceeding 5 to 6 cm in diameter, this small, stocky cactus grows very slowly but can live for many years. Its gray to pale green skin is covered with angular tubercles bearing discreet areoles, from which emerge short white to grayish spines.
When well established, the Strombocactus Disciformis produces at its apex a spectacular flower by its size (often larger than the cactus body), funnel-shaped, creamy white to pale pink in color. A true surprise atop such a modest cactus!
This adaptation to extreme environments explains its tolerance to prolonged drought periods and its extremely slow growth.
