Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Grecas
The Myrtillocactus Geometrizans ‘Grecas’ is a highly decorative and graphic form of the well-known Myrtillocactus Geometrizans. This cultivar owes its name to the deep, regular grooves of its stem, creating an almost architectural silhouette reminiscent of ancient Greek columns.
This columnar cactus can reach 2 to 4 meters in height when planted in the ground, but remains more compact in pots. It displays a blue-gray to steel-green coloration, sometimes dusted with a fine white bloom. The ribs are broad and angular, with spaced areoles bearing small brownish spines.
Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Grecas is valued for its sculptural form, ease of cultivation, and faster growth compared to many other cacti. It is suitable for sunny balconies or dry greenhouses, provided it is grown in a well-draining substrate.
In nature, it grows on rocky soils, sometimes alongside agaves and small shrubs, under intense sunlight and extremely well-drained conditions.
🌞 Full sun: at least 6 hours of direct light per day.
🌤️ Light shade: during heatwaves, protect young specimens to avoid sunburn.
💡 The more sun it receives, the more intense its blue coloration becomes.
🌱 Spring / summer: moderate watering every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on heat. Always wait until the substrate is completely dry.
🍂 Autumn / winter: no watering if kept cool. Avoid stagnant moisture.
⚡ Golden rule: too much water leads to rapid rot. Never leave water in the saucer.
🌞 Ideal growing temperature: between 20°C and 32°C.
❄️ Minimum tolerance: 5°C if kept dry. Bring indoors at 10°C if grown in pots.
🏠 Winter rest: in a bright, cool, and completely dry place.
🪨 Recommended substrate: 50% cactus soil + 25% pumice + 25% pozzolana.
💡 Adding a top layer of gravel helps limit moisture rise.
🌸 Season: late spring or summer, on mature plants (often over 50 cm tall).
🎨 Color: small white-greenish funnel-shaped flowers.
💡 If pollinated, the plant produces small edible blue-violet berries.
