Sterculia Colorata
Sterculia Colorata is a spectacular tropical tree belonging to the Malvaceae family. Native to South Asia, it impresses with its majestic habit and brilliant blooms that light up landscapes. Unlike the caudiciforms and succulents often found in collections, this Sterculia stands out with its tall silhouette and deciduous foliage, but above all with its bright orange flowering that covers its bare branches in spring.
Indeed, Sterculia Colorata sheds its leaves before blooming, revealing a profusion of red-orange flower clusters that transform the tree into a true natural firework display. This striking contrast between flamboyant flowers and dark wood has earned this species a special place in many tropical gardens and landscaped parks.
Beyond its beauty, this sterculia is appreciated for its robustness. Able to withstand extreme heat and periods of drought, it adapts to various soils as long as they remain well-draining. However, it fears excess stagnant moisture that can weaken its roots.
🌞 Full sun: Essential for vigorous growth and abundant flowering.
🌤️ Bright light: Can adapt to light partial shade but blooms less generously.
⚠️ Tip: The more sun it receives, the more spectacular its blooms.

🌞 Ideal: Between 24 °C and 32 °C.
❄️ Threshold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 12 °C.
🏠 Tip: In non-tropical regions, it can be grown in a large heated greenhouse.
🪨 Recommended substrate: Mix of cactus soil and sandy garden soil.
💡 Fertilizer: In spring, apply liquid succulent fertilizer to stimulate growth and flowering.
🌸 Period: Just before new leaves appear, in spring.
🎨 Color: Flamboyant red-orange flowers in dense clusters.
🕑 Duration: Several weeks, completely covering the bare branches.
