Cochemiea Poselgeri
The Cochemiea Poselgeri is a columnar cactus native to northwestern Mexico, particularly appreciated for its slender growth habit and its magnificent pink crown-shaped flowers. It is distinguished by its cylindrical and thin stems, often branching from the base, which can form dense clumps when mature.
Each stem generally measures between 2 and 5 cm in diameter and up to 1 meter in height. Its surface is composed of small conical tubercles arranged in a spiral, at the tip of which form areoles covered with fine white spines and sometimes a longer central spine, yellowish to light brown.
Highly decorative, the Cochemiea Poselgeri is also appreciated for its spectacular summer flowering: funnel-shaped flowers, pink or violet, arranged in a crown at the top of the stems. This flowering is followed by small decorative red fruits.
It is exposed to a hot and dry climate, with strong light and long periods without rain. Its slender habit allows it to weave between rocks and bushes to capture light.
🌞 Exposure: full sun or very bright light. Minimum 6 hours per day.
🌤️ Young plants: gradually acclimate them to direct sunlight.
💡 Indoors, place it in a south-facing position or under a LED grow light.
🌱 Spring / summer: Water every 15 to 20 days. Wait until the substrate is completely dry.
🍂 Autumn / winter: Stop watering. Dry rest promotes flowering the following spring.
⚡ Warning: This cactus strongly fears stagnant moisture. Water from the bottom if necessary.
🌞 Ideal temperature: 22°C to 32°C
❄️ Minimum resistance: -2°C when dry. Protect from 5°C if the substrate is moist.
🏠 Wintering: in a cool, bright, preferably unheated space.
🪨 Ideal mix: 40% cactus potting soil + 30% pumice + 30% pozzolana
💡 Tip: slightly elevate the pot to improve water drainage.
🌼 Season: Late spring to summer
🎨 Color: Bright pink to purple, tubular crown-shaped flowers
🕑 Duration: several days per flower
💡 Flowers appear on mature stems, provided proper dry wintering.
